Gear Reviews From National Outdoors

22 Designs Hammer Head Telemark Bindings Review

22 Designs Hammer Head Telemark Binding

The Hammer Head bindings originated from hard core Teton telemark skiers. The spring for the cable is front of the binding, unlike other popular bindings where the spring cartridges are part of the cable. This allows for a larger, stiffer spring, less weight on your boot and less complicated parts that can break. The Hammer Heads can be adjusted for 5 settings, depending on how much tension you want in the spring.

Voile Hardwire 3 Pin Binding

voile_3pin_hardwire.gif

The Voile 3-pin Hardwire binding combines the 3-pin toe box with the spring-loaded adjustable heel assembly.

PROS
I like the added safety of the old-school 3 pin toe-box in case something happens to while I'm touring. I also like being able to take the spring off the rear of my boot, when I'm on a gradual skin track. I have boots for touring and resort skiing, so I can quickly adjust the binding to fit my boot. I could never do this very quickly with my old cable bindings. I like being able to adjust the tension in spring with a few turns of the cartridge.

Dockers Outdoor Clothing Review

dockers_outdoors_logo

The popular brand Dockers is releasing a line of outdoor specific clothing for fall of 2008. We got a chance to review some of the clothes before they hit the shelves.

The Dockers Outdoor line features eco-friendly materials including recycled polyester and organic cotton. Some garments are made entirely of these materials, others are blends. I think it’s great to see the big brands moving in this direction.
