Here's the National Outdoors Top 10 List for the Summer 2008 Outdoor Retailer Show. The list is in no particular order, and there's no mathematical criteria we used to put this list together. These are products and companies that caught our eyes for a variety of reasons. Some companies are innovating ways to reduce their overall environmental impact, some products will introduce new comers to outdoor sports, some products are creative improvements on existing products, and some products are just flat out cool. National Outdoors will have more coverage of these products and companies, including Gear Reviews and Interviews with the founders in the coming weeks. Follow this link for additional coverage of the Summer 2008 Outdoor Retailer Show.
Please feel free to add your comments below and, if you attended the show, share some of the products you liked.

Black Crater -- Cord Lock LightThe Cord Lock Light is a simple, yet brilliant idea. The device slides onto the draw cord of your backpack, sleeping bag, jacket, stuff sack or wherever you need a light. The battery life can last up to five years if let idle and the light will operate 12 continuous hours on the High Setting. The flash setting provides a great safety feature if you or your kids are out after dark. You'll be able to get these at REI towards the end of September 2008. |

Trikke -- TribredThe Trikke is nearly impossible to describe in words, much easier to comprehend once you see a picture and completely understandable once you've ridden on one. It mixes the control of a bike, with the carving action of skiing. The Tribred is a Trikke with electric propulsion. You can travel up to 10 miles on one charge and the device collapses for easy transport with a manageable weight. They are nearly a third the cost of a Segway. The Tribred is much more fun to ride and a much better workout than a two-wheeled electric scooter. |

SkirtSportsThe Skirt Sports company is, as they say it, "a fun, edgy and sexy women's clothing line." The running skirt is at the heart of their line adding a girly twist to work out gear. Often times companies are so focused on the performance of the clothes that they forget to make them attractive, but Skirt Sports has combined form and function to offer really cute clothes that also perform. There is no need to look like a guy while you're doing the things you love any more, run like a girl and be proud of it. |

Naturally Bamboo ClothingThere are a number of companies that produce bamboo clothing, but none do it in the Environmentally Conscious and Socially Responsible ways that Naturally Bamboo Clothing does. The bamboo used is grown using sustainable farming techniques in Southern China, and the sewing facility in Minnesota will be run on solar power in 2009 (they currently purchase wind power and plant trees to offset carbon emissions).Naturally Bamboo Clothing lines combine comfort, affordability and sustainability. |

Camelbak -- RacebakIt's a jersey with a built-in water bladder holder. No need for a backpack! One of the Camelbak reps we spoke with tried one out in a cyclocross race. He said he was able to drink the entire race and the bladder stayed tight to his back, unlike backpacks that bounce around when you run. Camelbak launched this product at the show, and it will not be on the market until Summer 2009. When they do hit the market they'll go quick. Update:The Camelbak Racebak is now available in stores! |

Peel Sports -- Infinity SystemThe Infinity System gives an Urban flair to the traditional backpack. The shoulder harness allows for a number of accessories that can be attached to chest side, and the pack compartment itself can be removed from the backside. Accessories for the front side include a chest-mounted LED light and an Ipod/Iphone holder. While I was at the booth an independent product designer walked past. All he said was, "Wow, Very Cool." |

RoonWear -- RoonBugThe RoonBug line is the first ever insect-repellent technical apparel designed specially for infants and toddlers. The Insect Shield treatment is EPA approved and will last up to 70 washes. The RoonBug line seems like a safer alternative than bug sprays to protect your children from insects, and you get the benefits of the Dri-Release fabric.

Action Sports Video CamerasNow you can take video of your favorite sports with these, lightweight, impact resistant and affordable video cameras. These cameras mount on almost anything including helmets, kayaks and race cars. The video you capture can easily be transferred to your computer or to video sharing sites. As we all know, the younger demographic loves sharing video clips. This is a great product to motive kids to get involved in outdoor sports. We felt both companies that make these cameras should be featured. Pictured are the Epic Stealth Cam, and the Go Pro HERO. |
