The UL Bend Wilderness now contains a total of 20,819 acres and is managed by the Fish & Wildlife Service. All of the Wilderness is in the state of Montana. In 1976 the UL Bend Wilderness became part of the now over 108 million acre National Wilderness Preservation System. This System of wild lands contributes significantly to the ecological, economic, and social health of our country.

The Red Rock Lakes Wilderness now contains a total of 32,350 acres and is managed by the Fish & Wildlife Service. All of the Wilderness is in the state of Montana. In 1976 the Red Rock Lakes Wilderness became part of the now over 108 million acre National Wilderness Preservation System. This System of wild lands contributes significantly to the ecological, economic, and social health of our country.

The Welcome Creek Wilderness now contains a total of 28,135 acres and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. All of the wilderness is in the state of Montana.

Public land becomes wilderness through legislation passed by the United States Congress in the form of public laws. For the Welcome Creek Wilderness, this process began in 1978 when 28,440 acres were designated by Public Law 95-237.

The Welcome Creek Wilderness is part of the 106 million acre National Wilderness Preservation System.

The Cabinet Mountains Wilderness now contains a total of 94,272 acres and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. All of the wilderness is in the state of Montana.

Extending 125 miles up the Missouri River from the Fort Peck Dam in north-central Montana, the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is approximately 1,100,000 acres in size and includes the 245,000-acre Fort Peck Reservoir. Given the size and remoteness of the Refuge, the area has changed very little from the historic voyage of the Lewis and Clark expedition, through the era of outlaws and homesteaders, to the present time.

The Lee Metcalf Wilderness now contains a total of 254,288 acres and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service. All of the wilderness is in the state of Montana.

The National Bison Range is a diverse ecosystem of grasslands, Douglas fir and ponderosa pine forests, riparian areas and ponds. The National Bison Range is one of the last government owned palouse prairie native grasslands in the U.S. It supports herds of bison, elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorn, big horn sheep, and mountain goats as well as various predators such as coyotes, mountain lions, bears and bobcat and a variety of smaller mammals. The refuge has recorded 205 bird species with more added every year.
