SolVista Basin Ski Resort -- Granby, Colorado
Located just 15 minutes from Winter Park Resort, SolVista Basin at Granby Ranch is an economical alternative to big mountain skiing. This family ski and bike resort has over 400 acres of skiing and starts at the base elevation of 8,202 feet. There are two peaks with lift service: East Mountain’s elevation is at 9,202 feet and the West Mountain is 9,166 feet with amazing view of the Continental Divide and Never Summer Wilderness. With a vertical Drop of 1,000 feet this resort is a great place to learn how to ski and ride. The best aspect of skiing at SolVista Basin at Granby Ranch – the base area is located between East and West Mountain.
SolVista Basin at Granby Ranch caters to the beginner or family skier. There are 35 ski trails and 5 lifts. 30% of the trails are for beginners and 50% are for intermediate skiers. SolVista’s Ski & Ride School teaches the direct-to-parallel instruction technique for children and adults. They also offer a popular “never ever” ski program including lesson, rentals, and lift ticket. Their kids programs emphasize having fun all while teaching kids the skills to be comfortable on the slopes. Programs start at age 3 and up. Call for pricing.
There is a terrain park and half-pipe located in the main base area that is lift serviced.
Not a downhill skier or rider? That’s okay, cross country skiers and snowshoers can access the Nordic trail system just past the main area. There is a 40 kilometer trail system adjacent to the resort and rentals are at the Base Lodge.
SolVista Basin has night skiing three times a year on Saturdays. East Mountain is lit up and serviced by the Quick Draw Express. Non-skiers can enjoy the tubing hill with lift access, as well. The resort opens mid-December and closes on the last day of March. Lift ticket rates are economical. Children under 5 and anyone over 70 are free.

In summer, SolVista Basin’s ski resort trails turn into a single track and downhill biking haven. This resort is becoming famous for its mountain biking trails for downhiller mountain bikers of every level. SolVista’s Bike Park is the venue for the Mountain States Cup Races and National Championships. The trail system caters to downhill bikers however there is still plenty of beginner and intermediate cross country trails available such as Sweet Nancy and Nature’s Way.
The bike park has jumps and terrain features for every biking ability. There are 10 mountain biking trails and a pump track at the base to help get you warmed up. With names like Moga's Mile, Buc Nasty, and Cheez-It you are bound to have a great time riding the downhill trails. At the end of the day you can wash your bike at the Free Bike Wash.
