Everglades National Park
Everglades National Park encompasses roughly 1.5 million acres and is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. The area boasts rare and endangered species, such as the American crocodile, Florida panther, and West Indian manatee.
The boundaries of Everglades National Park protect only the southern one-fifth of the historic Everglades ecosystem. The habitats found within the larger Everglades ecosystem support plant and animal species not found elsewhere on the planet. This massive watershed and collection of habitats remain in a constant state of flux, subject to the elements of south Florida.
