Many of the sites hosting National Get Outdoors Day will have areas where you (and your friends and family) can participate in one or more of these activities. If it's your first time participating in any of these outdoor activities, remember to take it slow and don't get in over your head.

Hiking -- Strenuous walking on an unpaved trail. If your group is unfamiliar with the area, make sure you have a map. Bring a pack with food and water, if you plan to be on the trail for awhile.

Equipment: Comfortable Boots or Shoes, Map, Water Bottles, Backpack, Food

Fishing -- Most states require adults to have a fishing license. You should check with local officials or a local outdoor retailer to see what the fishing regulations are on the body of water you plan to fish.

Equipment: Rod, Reel, Lures or Bait

Camping -- Sleeping outside under the stars. Most public lands have designated, improved campsites with fire pits and picnic tables. They offer running water and primitive restrooms. You should call ahead to reserve a campsite (or a least see if reservations are available).

Equipment: Basics: Tent, Sleeping Bag, Sleeping Pad, Flashlight or Headlamp

Nice to Have: Stove, Firewood, Chairs
