Smartwool Mens Howelsen Half Zip Review

The Men's Howelsen Half Zip is a new 100% merino sweater from Smartwool. The sweater features the natural moisture wicking and temperature control properties that are found in all merino wool. It's also very comfortable, and most importantly very versatile. The Howelsen half zip can be worn for outdoor activities and around the office.

Here the Howelsen is taking a rest with cow and calf moose. The sweater has a warm collar that can be extended and zipped up in cold weather. The zipper runs down to just below your chest, so you can cool off if you get too hot while hiking.

The Howelsen is durable enough to wear beyond your casual attire. I spent the entire day fly-fishing in the sweater along the Snake River in Teton National Park. It was a great base layer beneath my shell, before the sunrise. It then provided plenty of warm while temperatures hovered in the low 50's. This sweater doesn't itch and holds it's shape after hours of activity.

The Howelsen provides a ruggedly handsome look. Here I'm meeting with a client in the sweater. It's as warm as a fleece coat, but a lot more formal. It also packs up smaller than a fleece so you pack it in your backpack or briefcase.
