Salomon Techamphibian Shoe/Sandal Review

The Salomon Techamphibian Shoe/Sandal, blends the water shedding qualities of a sandal with the stability of a lightweight running shoe. The synthetic mesh upper and Quickfit lacing won't absorb water, so you don't have to carry around extra weight until your shoes dry. These shoes are ideal for all your summertime outdoor activities both around water and away from the water. When in the water, you can cinch the shoes up tight to your feet using the Quickfit lacing and the ankle strap that tightens on your Achilles Tendon. Outside the water, you can fold the heal piece down onto the foot bed so you can wear the shoe like a clog.

PROS
I'm on my second pair of Salomon Techamphibians. My first pair lasted 5 years, with heavy use. I've used them when I float down the river in canoes, rafts and dories. I like the how they grip my feet in the water, so I can swim in them if I need to. They also have a sturdy toe piece that protects your toes from rocks much better than a regular sandal. I take them camping and backpacking as a second pair of shoes to wear around camp and so I can stand in streams and fish without getting my hiking boots soaked. I use them the most just wearing them around town.

CONS
The holes in the mesh that allow the water to drain from the shoe also allow small pebbles and sand to get into the shoe. This can become abrasive on your foot if walking in the shoe. Some people may find this annoying, especially when your wearing the shoe all day.

These shoes get a moldy smell after a few years of heavy use (and even sooner if you don't take care of them). I ended up cleaning mine with water and bleach a few times a summer. Also, I would take the liners out of the shoe, and let them dry between uses in wet conditions.
