Merrell Classic Hiking Sock with EWE Technology Review
In October 2009, Merrell launched a new line of socks based on their EWE (Enhanced Wool Endurance) technology. The EWE marries each strand of wool fiber with a strand of Duraline Synthetic fiber. This technology combines the natural warmth of wool, with the durability and wicking properties of a synthetic fiber. I've been testing the sock for the last two months, and I've been please with the results.

The sock I tested was mid-weight, crew height and designed for hiking. I found the socks to fit true to size. As the weather has gotten colder, I find myself wearing these socks with my everyday wardrobe. The EWE technology has cut the weight and bulk of the sock, without compromising the warmth provided by wool.
Merrell Classic Hiking Sock Bottom

Notice the extra cushion on the heel and toe of the sock. This helps keep the sock stable in your boot and provides shock absorption. I read a customer's review on Merrell's website that complained the sock wore out quickly. As you can see in the picture, the heel and toe look pretty worn. That really didn't effect the performance of the sock and that's the way wool wears. It gets shiny.
Merrell Classic Hiking Sock Ventilation
The mesh over the top of the foot allows the sock to breath. I wore these socks hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. They've held up well and have kept my feet warm and dry.
Merrell offers a 3-year guarantee on these socks.
