Kelty Adventure Child Carrier

Kelty Adventure Child Carrier

I've used this pack for over two years with my daughter, starting when she was 6 months old. I've mainly used the pack for short day hikes, ski tours and downhill skiing. It's great too if you just want to have a way to carry your child around at big events like fairs or concerts. This pack differs from many of the other child carriers in two ways. First, it has a frame stand that allows you to set the pack down and put your child in it. This comes in very handy if you are alone, and when carrying the pack on the ski lift. Second, there is much more storage than other child carriers. The storage compartments are removable if you don't want them, but the extra space comes in very handy when carrying your gear and your diaper bag essentials.

PROS
This pack is built more like a backpacking pack than a standard backpack. It has adjustable shoulder and hip straps which makes for a very customized comfortable pack. It also packs like a backpacking pack, so there's not a lot of sway and it feels very secure. It has a mirror and holder so you can check on the little one from time to time. The carrier part, where the child rides, has three adjustable settings, so as your child grows you can adjust to fit his/her size. The Kelty Adventure Pack also has rain fly on top which is very nice to protect your child from branches that may hang over the trail that you don't see. There is plenty of storage in this pack. You can easily pack food, clothes, and lots of other stuff for an extended outing.

CONS
This pack worked great until my daughter was about two and half. I maxed out the adjustments and she complained of feeling cramped in it. I don't know if it was just her desire to walk, but she no longer wanted to ride in the pack. It's also very difficult to get shoes and boots into the legging holes of the carrier about the child's about a year and a half old. I would just put her in the carrier, then put her shoes on.
