Karhu Jak Backcountry
The Karhu Jak Backcountry is a light weight version of the popular Jak. In order to save weight, without giving up performance, Karhu replaced the Titanal with carbon fiber, and the maple core with Greenlight, an environmentally friendly core. The Jak BC weights nearly a pound less than the regular Jak. The weight savings makes touring a breeze. Click here for my Jak review.
PROS
I skied the Jak Backcountry skis right after I skied the Jaks. The weight difference was very noticeable. The Jak Backcountry floated across the powder and felt much more springy under my feet. The front is of the ski was not as soft as I would have thought a true backcountry ski would be, but that was good for running through the crud and mashed up powder.
CONS
This ski is really just for touring and powder days at resorts. If your looking for an all round ski, this is not it. The lightness, soft core and absence of Titanal, make the ski feel wobbly in wet crud and difficult to set an edge on the hard pack.
