iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle Seat Review
The iBert Safe-T Seat is a great way to get kids into cycling. We've been towing our kids in a bike trailer for the last few years. They would fight and try to crawl out, so we looked for an alternative... and that's when we found the iBert Seat. My son has a blast and now wants to going biking more and more. We can talk to him while riding and he likes to be able to look around. The seat mounts quickly to the handle bar stem and provides a secure and safe ride.
iBert Inc's Recommendation -- "The safe-T-seat is designed for children age 4 and under. The minimum age is 12 months as the child needs to be able to sit up well and hold the weight of a helmet on his/her head. The maximum height of the child that can use the safe-T-seat is 42 inches. Kids much taller than that will be uncomfortable. The recommended max weight is 38 lbs. Above 38 lbs and the maneuverability of the bike may be affected. "
iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle Seat
Here we're biking along the Snake River in Jackson, Wyoming. The trail is gravel, yet the bike is very easy to control with the iBert seat. While riding the bike, it's easy to chat with your child, and point out cool things to look at. My son liked to hold onto the handle bars, like he was controlling the bike. It's a great learning experience because he can feel the balance of the bike, and he watches how I operate the gears and brakes.
The bike rides very balanced with the iBert Seat. I didn't feel much weight on the front tire. You do need to be careful as you load and unload the child from the seat. I lean my bike up against something, just to make sure it doesn't fall over.
iBert Seat Close-Up

My son wasn't in the mood for pictures today. He's a tall two year old, and he fits perfectly in the seat. While riding in the seat, he can carry small toys or a treat bag. It's a pain sometimes, but we always make him wear a helmet.
iBert Safe-T Seat Harness and Restraint

In this picture you can see the 1/4" thick neoprene padding on the back and seat. There is a three point harness and a folding restraint, for added safety. The seat cleans up very easily and can be washed with a hose or left out in the rain without damage. Notice how the legs of the seat fit under the handlebars. If your child is wearing shoes, on some bikes you may struggle to get their feet between the seat and the handle bars. The Solution. Take off the shoes while loading.
iBert Stem Mounted Stinger

This is a the top view of the stinger mounted to the handlebar stem. iBert Inc. recommends you have at least 3/4" of stem length to mount the stinger. You need to be sure to tighten each bolt (white arrows) the same amount to ensure the proper mount. A hex wrench is provided. I was able to mount the stinger in under 3 minutes. I also tested the iBert Seat on three separate bikes, and had no problem mounting the stinger on a variety of stem diameters.
iBert Safe-T Seat on the Stem Mounted Stinger

Once the stinger is mounted, the iBert Seat slides over it. The seat is secured with a cotter pin, and has three settings to move the seat forward or back. This system makes for quick attachment/detachment so you can ride without the seat if you not with your child.
