A different experience with the Sentinel 65
Maybe this is the best backpack at this price, but look at the competition. My own experience with the Sentinel 65 suggested that you get what you pay for -- if you're lucky. I bought two of these -- one for myself and one for my son. By the end of my first backpacking trip (second time for his backpack) one of my zippers was broken, his hipbelt buckle was broken, and one of his straps was tearing out of the pack. It was no fun finishing the trip with a broken hip belt. Another problem was that the straps tended to slip, so we frequently had to stop to adjust them, and it was hard getting the whole thing comfortable. These packs are widely available for around $100, so I don't know who would pay $220. Either way, I would recommend getting a good namebrand pack, like a Gregory, Lowe, or Osprey. You'll pay a little more now, but it will last for a long, long time, saving you a lot of money in the long run and perhaps some nightmares on the trail. I've got a Gregory now, and I'm not going to have to worry about the sorts of situations I ended up in with the High Sierras.
