Camelbak Better Bottle Stainless Review
Camelbak continues to innovate their line of "flip and slip" hydration products. The new Stainless Steel Better Bottles are made from medical grade stainless steel which offers a taste-free, stain resistant liner and provides a durable exterior. The Better Bottle design is unique because you don't have to un-screw the lid of the bottle to get a drink. Just flip up the Big Bite Valve and take a sip. These bottles are spill proof, so you can toss them in your backpack or gym bag with no worries.
I took the single walled bottle for a hike, and of course I dropped it a few times (pretty hard). It got a few small dings on the base, with no scratches to the paint job. The bottle is light enough to carry in your hand while exercising, yet small enough to fit in the water bottle holder of most bikes and backpacks.
Ice Cube Melting Test
I set up a basic experiment to test the insulating properties of the Camelback Better Bottles. As you can see from the picture above, I used the standard Better Bottle, the Stainless Better Bottle and the Insulated Stainless Better Bottle. To begin the experiment, I filled each bottle up with three ice cubes and tap water. I then let the bottles set at room temperature. After about an hour the ice in the standard and stainless Better Bottles had melted. The water in the bottles was chilled, but not ice cold like the insulated bottle. It finally took 4 hours for the ice to completely melt in the Insulated Stainless Better Bottle.
PROS: I was very impressed with the Insulated Stainless Better Bottle. Once the bottles were filled with water the weight difference is negligible. Filled with ten ice cubes, the insulated bottle still had ice chunks in it after 8 hours!
CONS: The single walled stainless bottle got ready cold once it was filled with ice cubes. The bottle then had a thin film of sweat on it. Although the bottles are spill-proof, if you put them in a bag, the sweat from the bottle may dampen other items. THE INSULATED BOTTLE DID NOT SWEAT.
BOTTOMLINE: PAY A LITTLE MORE AND GET THE INSULATED BOTTLE

2 comments postedI had the insulated better bottle out in the hot sun today. The outside of the bottle was hot to the touch, but the inside was cold as ice.
I've been using the insulated bottle to store my recovery drink in after I mountain bike. It stays cool in the hot car for a few hours while I ride.
