Arcteryx Silo 18 Backpack Review
The Arc'Teryx Silo 18 backpack is perfect for short backcountry outings. This backpack features a unique design that allows the backpack to ride higher on your back, which makes it more comfortable and easier to manage. The pack only weights a kilogram and is large enough to fit a hydration bladder and essential safety gear (you may need to strap your shovel on the outside of the pack). We tested this pack in the Teton Pass, Wyoming backcountry.

Inside of Arcteryx Silo 18 Backpack

The inside of the pack has a pocket to hold your hydration bladder, and a smaller, zippered pocket to hold small stuff. The pack fills up quick with a face mask and climbing skins.

The Thermoformed Back Panel adds stability to the small pack. This helps when your packing a board or skis on the pack. It also helps hold the water bladder in place. Notice the how the pack tapers toward the bottom. This makes the silo 18 feel much less restrictive than other backpacks.
Front of Arcteryx Silo 18 Backpack

The Hypalon synthetic rubber helps reduce wear and keeps your skis from slipping. The wrap system straps take a little time to get used to, because you can only adjust them at the ends.
PROS: If you truly are going light, you'll love this pack. You'll barely notice it. You can also use this pack for hiking or biking.
CONS: This pack may be too small. The Silo 30 is a larger version with shovel and probe sleeves included.
