1UP Bike Trainer

1up Bike Trainer

It's that time of the year, when biking has to go indoors. As you all know, there are a number of trainers out there. I picked the 1up trainer because it was rated very highly by users of mtbreview.com, it looked study enough for a mountain bike, and 1upusa is a small company from Wisconsin.

The set-up and adjustments for the trainer are well documented. A brief set-up sheet comes with the trainer and there is a wealth of information at their website. Within a few minutes I had the trainer out of the box and connected to my bike. If you are using this with a mountain bike, I would suggest getting a slick tire. The knobby tires are very noisy and it will wear you tire out much faster.

PROS
The trainer is very stable even when you're pushing hard. I like the micro adjustments you can make to the legs, so if you put the trainer on an uneven surface you can level it out with a few turns of the knob. I also like how quickly you can adjust the trainer for a different bike.

The adjustment tools are built onto the trainer and stay attached, so you not looking for the tools or loosing the tools every time you move the trainer. I've used this for a season and half and I've had no problems and I've done no maintenance on it. The trainer folds-up to a smaller profile for storage.

CONS
The trainer is not light, so it's not very easy to travel with. You might not like the time it takes to adjust the resistance of the fly-wheel. It's not difficult, you just need to take the flywheel apart and remove/add some bearings.
