National Outdoors created an initiative called Urban Outdoors. We're covering Outdoor Recreation Areas in, and around, major metropolitan areas. The idea is to promote awareness of outdoor areas in close proximity to a major population centers. Most of us live, work and play in big cities, and we play outside. The park you jog in, the trail you bike on or the stream you kayak on is not as famous as Yellowstone, but it's the place you enjoy the outdoors... the Urban Outdoors. |

If you're in wine country and want to get out for a nice hike or a quick jog try the Sonoma Overlook Trail. It's a short drive or walk from the Sonoma town square. The trail is a two mile loop and with a fairly gentle grade. If you're hiking, there are a number of benches to sit down and take in the view, (and maybe enjoy a picnic or glass of wine). The trail is very well marked and a bit rocky in some spots; however you can do the hike or run in regular running shoes. During the rainy season the trail can get pretty muddy. |
