The crew at National Outdoors is headed out on the trail today. Off to do some backpacking in the remote canyons of southern Utah. Look for reviews of the MSR Reactor stove, the Stirpen Adventurer water treatment tool, the MSR Dragonfly stove, and tents and sleeping bags from REI in the coming weeks.

See all the popular sites around Yellowstone National Park. Also some wildlife viewing and pictures of the rustic architecture within the Old Faithful Lodge. It's not the same as being in Yellowstone, but makes me want to visit again.

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is America's first national park. A majority of Yellowstone is located in northwest Wyoming, however the park boundaries spillover into southwest Montana, and northeastern Idaho. Preserved within Yellowstone National Park are Old Faithful and a collection of the world's most extraordinary geysers and hot springs, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The park is home to a large variety of wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk.

Devils Tower National Monument rises more than 1200 feet above the surrounding Black Hills. The tower, also known as Bears Lodge, is a sacred site for Native Americans.
The Tower Trail offers a nice walk around Devils Tower. It's paved, and only a 1.3 mile loop. This is great way to get away from the crowds at the visitor center and get into the pine forest and see the huge boulders that have fallen off the tower.

Cow Moose with calves in Grand Teton National Park. Best viewed from a distance. If your ever in Grand Teton National Park and you come upon a Moose with calves, stay away. Moose are very docile except when they have little ones to protect.

The only true way to grasp the size, ruggedness and beauty of Grand Teton National Park is the stand at the base of these towering peaks.
Grand Teton National Park protects stunning mountain scenery and a diverse array of wildlife. Rising more than 7,000 feet above the valley of Jackson Hole, the Teton Range dominates the park’s skyline. The elevation of the park ranges from 6,400 feet on the sagebrush-dominated valley floor to 13,770 feet on the windswept granite summit of the Grand Teton.

Wild video of two rafters taken in Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park. This was taken during high water, so the rapids are incredibly difficult. The last one knocks the two rafters off their boat, for a rough ride in the river. A sight to see.

I just thought I would put in a quick update on the steelhead fishing at Riggins Idaho and the little Salmon River to the south.
While the river has not come up to its normal spring time flows it has come up over the last week and the steelhead are stating to move on up the river. Saturday March 22 2008 I Stopped and fished a couple of holes on my way to Riggins From New Meadows I did Hook and land two steelhead in the Bolder Creek area but fishing was still fairly slow there.

Steelhead trout belong to the family Salmonidae which includes all salmon, trout, and the char. Steelhead are the anadromous form of rainbow trout which migrate to the oceans during their adult life, they then return to the same steam and rivers where they migrated from as juveniles. They are a salmonid species native to western North America and the Pacific Coast of Asia.

After months and months of research and data entry, we've finally cataloged each National Park, Ski Resort and Outdoor Recreation Areas (the major ones) by state for all 50 states. Now we need your help to provide useful information about trails, camping spots, ski runs, fishing holes, mountain bike rides, whitewater, beaches, lakes, and on and on. You get the point. This is a huge task, but there's a way that can benefit everyone who supplies information.

I was able to make another quick trip down to Riggins Idaho Wednesday I knew before I left that fishing would be tough but I just needed to get out for awhile. With high pressure setting up and the cold nights we have been having expecting any more would have been total optimism on my part.

I know every fly fisherman has their list of favorite flies and will not go out fishing with out a good supply of each one. Which fly you use and how you fish it is often a matter of deep debate when fishing with your partner. None the less I have put a list of my top five steelhead flies just to let every one know what I have with my Steelhead gear when I am after spring steelhead.
